We are. Our DBA is filed with Allegany County and we have our Certificate of Authority to collect sales tax from NYS
Currently, no.
At the moment we are working with NYS on becoming license to do so. Once we reach this milestone, we will make information available to everyone.
Keep an eye out, if all goes well, we will be selling peonies this fall!
Long story short - no. We are not organic.
Although we are not organic, we choose to use non-organic pesticides LAST. We will ALWAYS take the natural route first, second, and third. When those fail and an entire crop is at risk, that is when we will opt for a non-organic option.
You don't want to bring chemicals into your home, and neither do we!
Our first line of defense is a good ole finger flick, usually into soapy water for those pesky beetles, slugs, and snails.
We use cups of stale beer to trap slugs and snails.
Diatomaceous earth is used frequently for slugs and snails, also as a thrips preventative measure.
Peppermint castile soap mixed with water in a spray bottle is used to deter some of those petal eating bugs.
Neem oil is also used for bugs who don't seem to mind the peppermint oil soap. We hate the smell, so we spray the soap a few times before going this route.
Lastly, we will use Sevin spray when literally all else fails. We spray at night so that by the time the butterflies and dragon flies are back out in the morning, the residue is dry and poses less of a risk to them.
When it comes to disease, most disease we prevent by adequately spacing our plants so that they can get airflow. The most common disease for cut flowers would be powdery mildew. Powdery mildew doesn't pose much of a threat to the plant and is taken off when the leaves are stripped.
If we do determine the need to treat a fungal disease, we will use Captain Jack's Copper Fungicide. It is an organic product.
Other common diseases include aster yellows, which is spread by bugs. Aster yellows affect many different flowers in the asteraceae family, as well as over 30 other plant families. We have found ONE plant with aster yellows in 2024 and it was removed and destroyed.
In 2025 we will be offering flowers for small events. We will not be doing weddings for a few years, but when our you-pick is open you can definitely come to cut flowers for your wedding or events as a DIY.
Why are we not doing weddings yet?
Brides (and grooms), you deserve nothing but the best on your special day. Although we can grow the flowers, we are not yet confident enough to arrange a wedding worthy bouquet. As we learn more skills and practice, practice, practice, we will be open to doing wedding arrangements.
